Battling Diabetic Macular Oedema

Diabetic Macular Oedema

Yesterday I had to attend the Macular Clinic at the Queens Medical Centre for my next round of injections into my eyes following my diagnosis of Diabetic Macular Oedema.

The actual process of each injection is very quick but even tough they put plenty of antithetic drops in, for just a second it is extremely painful as the needle goes in.

This time, instead of injecting an implant like last time which I can still see floating around my eyes, they injected a fluid which has vanished instantly. I’m much happier with this result.

Taking a longer look at the prognosis for this condition I’m not sure how I feel. At the very best I am looking at having these injections done every 4 weeks for 6 months and then every 6-8 weeks another 18 months before I’m clear of the problem. At worst, I could not respond to treatment and therefore I’ll go blind!

Something that’s taking a bit of getting my head around.
