Today is D-Day + 80 years. 80 years from the day the British and allied people both civilian and military at home and overseas took the fight back to liberate Europe and deliver the final defeat to Nazi Germany after what had already been a long all out war.

For someone who wasn’t there I can never imagine what it must have been like. To walk into danger and death never knowing if you will live or die in the next second. But those people did just that and they did it without question or argument because they knew it was the right thing to do at that exact time in history.

I don’t know if I could ever be that brave, I hope I could if it ever came down to it.

I also know that these people were real heroes and for that I offer them my deepest thanks, respect and gratitude today and every day.
