On Wednesday I took a very early trip out to RAF Lakenheath over in the county of Suffolk. Although it’s an RAF base it’s actually the home of a US Airforce fighter wing. That means they have F-15 Eagles and F-35 lighting fighters. No so bothered about seeing the F-35 but seeing the F-15 Eagle would be a big tick on my bucket list.
I got to the viewing area at the end of the runway at about 8am, switched my radio on and sat in anticipation of seeing fast jets. At 9am they turned on the flashy runway lights on so I was ready for action. By 12 noon absolutely nothing other than a few pickup trucks had moved on the airfield!!! So I had to pack up and head home.
Turns out they started to fly about 45 minutes after I left site!!!!!!!
I will be going back in a few weeks time but by next visit will be over 2 days and I will be staying at a nearby hotel which will hopefully give me a better chance of seeing something fly.
