I’ve been along to the eye casualty this morning because I was a little concerned that the sight in my right eye was starting to deteriorate a little. I thought it might be secondary cataracts setting in following my cataract surgery last October (2023). If that was the case then a simple laser treatment would fix things.
Sadly it wasn’t secondary cataracts but rather a condition called Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) which is a build up of fluid behind the retina in the area of the macula and is common for people like me who suffer from diabetes. And just for added fun, shits and giggles it also turns out that both eyes have been affected and need treatment.
Treatment is a course of injections directly into the eye itself over a period of time and then close monitoring to see if further treatment and injections are needed. Once the condition is under control then maybe an injection every 3 years.
All sounds like a huge pile of fun will be coming my way!!!
