I send my support and respect to Dr Beth Upton

Beth Upton is a medical doctor at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Scotland who in the last 2 or 3 years has transitioned to a new life as a woman. Something that is probably one of the hardest things any person can do.

Sadly, a “lady” called Sandie Peggie at the same hospital has objected to her using the female changing rooms and allegedly made some derogatory comments about Dr Upton being like a convicted rapist!

First thing, I’m really pleased that the hospital management did the right thing and defended Dr Upton’s rights in a respectful way.

Secondly, the hospital management also did the right thing and suspended Sandie Peggie for this and other “transphobic” hate crimes which has now lead to a tribunal in court.

I see people all the time like Sandie Peggie who seem to want to hurt others for no other reason than they feel they can. I wonder if these people realises how much it hurts being subjected to this sort of treatment?

It hurts both at the time of the incident but perhaps more damaging it hurts years later just as much. The feelings it generates sit with you at the back of your mind and come out to haunt you when you are at a low point and feeling insecure. These are the things that can tip the balance one way or the other on a dark lonely night when you are trying your hardest to find a reason to live.

Yes, it’s that serious!

Finally, I want to send Dr Beth Upton my love, my support and my utmost respect for standing up for what’s right and not just giving up and walking away. Do what you can Dr Upton and know there are many people from all walks of life who support you, not just the LGBTQ+ community.
