Major changes to benefits all round, but are they good or bad?

Today (Tuesday 18th March 2025) the government has announced some major changes to benefits system. In many ways I both agree with these changes and the reasons they have had to be made.

I think it’s true that many people see health benefits as a free ride to not having to work. I particularly agree that far too many people are using mental heath as an easy route into benefits.

So, while it might sound a bit harsh at first sight, removing people from the list who really shouldn’t be there in the first place can only strengthen the support for those who really need and deserve it.

The only thing I truly hope for is that the government, whoever they are, stand by their promises to put into place high quality support for everyone.

Proper support for those who qualify for the benefits and proper support for those who don’t and will need alternative support to deal with what’s happened to them. I do fear however that this might not fully happen.

As a side note. I don’t spend a lot of time watching politicians and parliament “sitting” on the BBC news because it’s a total waste of time and space. But watching this announcement today made my blood boil. All I saw were FUCKING IDIOTS trying to score points over each other based on how the other side had fuck up worst than they had. To every politician who was there today you should hang your heads in shame!
