Another round of eye injections
According to Google, “Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), a serious complication of diabetes, occurs when fluid leaks from damaged blood vessels in the retina, causing swelling in the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. “ The photo on the left is the most recent OCT scan of my eyes and shows the build up of fluid at the centre of my retinas. One eye having more fluid that the other which I can tell by better vision in one eye to the other.
I have been fighting this condition for about a year now and the treatment plan is 4 rounds of monthly injections into each eyeball (yes you read that correctly!) followed with an and check up with a consultant and an OCT scan 1 month after the last injection. Then, for now, we do it all over again.
The results of the treatment are evident the next day with my vision returning to needle sharpness and colour and contrast being just about perfect. I would even go as far as saying that my vision is better than it has been for 30 years or more. This improvement last until the next injection when it all starts aging.
The only positive is that for now, this treatment is working at the time of each injection and slowly it is improving my vision for longer and longer between injections. It would however be nice if this could offer a permanent fix for the condition but I fear that will not happen and eventually over time I will lose my sight to some degree or another, maybe totally.
The really odd thing today however. Even though my vision started declining last week and hit a really bad day around mid week, today my vision is almost perfect even though I haven’t had the next injection yet!
