The good old NHS, what are you doing to yourself?

The NHS, one of the greatest treasures of the UK. We should be so prod of it, of what it can do and how it has the power to change peoples lives for the better. Members of the NHS should also do their job with pride and dedication.

Sadly, when I look around me I don’t think that the NHS is actually that good right now and I’m absolutely 100% certain that many of the NHS staff do not take the pride in their work that they should do.

I’ve seen in the news that user satisfaction figures for NHS care and services is at an all time low of around 35% and continuing to fall year on year. I struggle to actually comprehend that figure to be frank with you.

If this was a privately owned company alarm bells would have been sounding long ago and changes would have been demanded by customers and users way before reaching dissatisfaction levels of 35%. And more than anything, management at all levels would need to react and make changes otherwise the company would end trading no matter how big and powerful they were.

But it seems that while the people of the UK are up in arms about the quality of service from the NHS, the staff from the very bottom of the pile to the very top person don’t seem to give a shit.

To many of them we are just bits of meat to move around departments or numbers on spreadsheets that need to be made to go away. We are just a pay check to them.

And the politicians in charge of the country, be it England, Wales or Scotland make token gestures to appear that they are trying to do something, but the truth is all they are doing is trying to con us into voting for them by playing the “we care” game while turning their backs and saying “fuck you” and laughing all the way to the next election.

I think that the NHS has forgotten that everything they do, every time they cut a corner or say they are going to do something and don’t, every time they don’t give a shit because it’s just a job hurts someone that’s a venerable human being in need of help.

And if you ask me what I’m basing this on. Apart from the news reports I have eyes and I spend a lot of time in hospitals and I observe what is going on around me and I see and experience this “new” NHS attitude every time.

I will say a final thing, some parts of the NHS are amazing. Some parts of the NHS work exactly how they should do. Have a major road accident and the earth seems to move to get you back together again and that is amazing. But for the rest of us mundane patients it’s not so good.

Good luck to everyone of you.
