Finally got the new SSD installed and working

It’s taken me the best part of 2 weeks to get this sorted and 3 different SSD drives, but I now have an internal SSD Drive fitted and working perfectly as my data drive.

The Geekom GT1 Mega comes fitted with a 2TB NVMe PCIe drive fitted into the primary slot, while the secondary slot is empty and user upgradable. I assumed that the secondary drive slot was also an NVMe PCIe and that’s the root of all my problems.

Turns out that the secondary slot is a SATA slot!! So once a SATA drive was plugged in, Diskmanger was run and the new space allocated (F-disk and partitioning in old computer speak) the drive was visible and usable.

Now for a confession. I conceded and contacted Geekom Support to get their advice on why the drives I was fitting didn’t work, so I hang my head in shame!

I will also confess that these days I am so out of touch with PC hardware. Back in my day all you had to worry about was the drive SATA/IDE and is it a big drive or a little drive. Seems that there days there are endless options to consider. I’M GETTING OLD.

On the bright side, Geekom Support were first class. Not only did they get back to really quickly, they got back to me with the right information first time and clearly knew what the were talking about. Not something you get very often these days. So top marks to Geekom.
